  • Central Pattana wants to reinforce its leadership for clean, safe and COVID-free shopping centers under its “Central Hygiene & Safety Safe Plus+” measures.

Central Pattana plc., operator of centralwOrld, CentralPlaza, CentralFestival, and Central Phuket and Thailand’s first luxury outlet Central Village, is upgrading the air-conditioning systems at its shopping centers with the COVID-free “Smart & Healthy Building” innovation to strengthen its position as the leader for clean and hygienic shopping centers.

Central Si Racha and Central Ayutthaya will be the first Central shopping centers with the new system, and the company targets to install it at all of its shopping centers across the country to improve air circulation and provide a cleaner and safer environment for customers.

Dr. Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana, Executive Vice President of Marketing of Central Pattana Plc., said, “The global COVID-19 pandemic has caused people to become aware of the importance of good and clean air quality.  As we are the leader for clean and safe shopping centers and the creator of ‘Central Hygiene & Safety Safe Plus+’ master plan, which is used as a model in creating the highest level of public health measures and a new normal with shopping centers as safe space, we are determined to continue to develop solutions to solve pain points of today’s customers.  The ‘Smart & Healthy Building’ innovation directly alleviates some of the customer pain points we have identified, such as the problems from PM 2.5 dust particles and the COVID-19 risks.”

The ‘Smart & Healthy Building’ innovation consists of three components.

  1. Installation of high-efficiency MERV filters at the central air handling unit (A.H.U.) can help reduce particles by 90%. The filters are highly capable of trapping PM 2.5 dust particles, mold and bacteria.
  2. Installation of UVC lamps at the A.H.U. will reduce up to 95% of airborne germs including mold, bacteria and viruses, including those that cause COVID-19, by killing them with UV light.
  3. Installation of air quality index multi-sensors at various spots in the shopping centers to ensure that the indoor air quality is always at a good level. The multi-sensors will constantly monitor the air to detect PM 2.5 and PM 10 dust particles, volatile organic compounds (VOC), carbon dioxide (CO2) and formaldehyde.

The Smart & Healthy Building innovation will first be used at Central Si Racha and Central Ayutthaya, two new shopping centers that will have an official opening on 27 October and 30 November, respectively.  The company also plans to install the systems at all of its 33 shopping centers around the country to boost the confidence of visitors and the public.

“This will ensure clean air in the shopping centers for better health and quality of life for all customers, utilizing our professionalism in managing the situation and providing safe space for everyone.  We are also ready to respond to any situation and strictly adhere to the standards of the Ministry of Public Health, as we raise public awareness on hygiene and safety,” said Dr. Nattakit.

Central shopping centers has recently been given the “COVID Free Setting” label by the initiative Thai Stop COVID2 Plus as a guarantee for cleanliness and safety, which is expected to boost confidence of all customers.  The shopping centers have received good cooperation from tenants and employees in working together to implement strict public health measure “Central Hygiene & Safety Safe Plus+” in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Public Health.  Central is focusing on social distancing, vaccination for service employees, 100% screening on the first day and every week, quarantine system and around-the-clock cleanliness.

Central Pattana is committed to promoting collaboration of all involved to create a hygienic and safe society.  It has been developing and improving safety measures to ensure that Central shopping centers will be COVID-free space, which will be a model for other shopping centers in Thailand.
