Fine jewelry is akin to priceless works of art, meticulously crafted by highly skilled artisans. To celebrate its 110th anniversary, the renowned luxury jewelry brand “CHAVANA” presents the grand exhibition ‘Timeless Treasures: From the Far East; Influence of Oriental Aesthetics.’ Curated by Arusa Sirikrai, CHAVANA’s Director of Marketing Communications, this exhibition showcases a stunning collection of antique pieces and masterpiece jewelry inspired by the enduring beauty of Orientalism. Visitors can immerse themselves in this celebration of timeless elegance until August 30th at the ATT 19, Charoen Krung 30.

The event welcomed celebrities Supornthip Choungrangsee, Apinara Srikarnchana, Rika Dila, Pipatchara Kaeojinda, Pitcha Thanalongkorn, Suthita Chotjurangkool, Wachana Charoensomsamai, Phannapast Taychamaythakool, Sopana Lavichant, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Pinaree Sanpitak, Shone Puipia and many more.

“CHAVANA,” a prestigious Thai jewelry brand, was established in 2014 by the fourth-generation descendants to celebrate the anniversary of their ancestral jewelry business, ‘Mian Teck.’ Founded in 1914, Mian Teck was a pioneering jewelry store whose works have been renowned in both Thailand and internationally for over 100 years. The CHAVANA brand was created to carry on the legacy of exquisite craftsmanship by master artisans, continuing the family tradition of creating high-end jewelry.

Arusa Sirikrai discussed the purpose of organizing this exhibition, saying, “To celebrate the 110th anniversary of our family’s high jewelry business, which started in 1914 from a small shop and grew into a high-end jewelry export business recognized internationally. As the fourth-generation descendants, we established the ‘CHAVANA’ brand to continue creating high jewelry with distinctive identity and master craftsmanship. For this special occasion, we wanted to showcase rare and exquisite jewelry pieces for everyone to see. We have collaborated with the renowned ATT 19 Gallery to present the ‘Timeless Treasures’ exhibition, featuring over 70 precious pieces from Thai and international collectors alongside antique collections from ATT 19. This exhibition aims to reflect the inspiration and connection of the beauty of the East from the past to the present. This event is truly special, and we invite all jewelry and art enthusiasts to experience it.”

High jewelry from the brand “CHAVANA” has inherited and preserved the techniques of European craftsmanship from their ancestors. Drawing inspiration from art, culture, and history from various eras and regions around the world, these elements are reinterpreted with a modern, sleek elegance. The result is meticulously detailed jewelry that embodies timeless beauty and distinct character in each collection. Especially notable are the high-level craftsmanship techniques and processes, which are the brand’s signature. Key design techniques include:

Beaded Edge is a technique where tiny beads are meticulously arranged along the edge of a jewelry piece. Artisans handcraft each bead with precision, ensuring each has a diameter of less than 0.25 millimeters. The beads are pressed and rotated along the metal edge at least three times to create perfectly formed beads. When these beads are arranged in a continuous spiral, they accentuate the design’s pattern. Additionally, the Beaded Edge technique softens the appearance and texture of the polished metal by reducing reflections, ensuring they do not interfere with the diamond’s sparkle.

Gemstone Mosaic, inspired by the art of ancient Roman mosaics, employs the technique of setting high-quality gemstones of various colors and shapes into intricate patterns like a painting to create stunning beauty. Each gemstone is meticulously selected for quality and expertly cut into special shapes to fit seamlessly into the design. A special cutting technique called Buff-top is used, combining two classic styles: the top is cabochon-shaped, while the bottom is faceted like a diamond. This technique enhances the gem’s brilliance and creates striking visual depth. The seamless arrangement of the gemstones forms a multidimensional pattern, reflecting beauty akin to the work of an artist.

Petit-Point is a French embroidery technique that gained popularity in the 18th century for creating luxurious textile work. This technique has been adapted for use with metal, where gold is hammered thin and delicate, resembling silk threads. This rare craftsmanship requires highly skilled artisans to meticulously saw out small square grids, each less than 1 millimeter wide, to create a cross-stitch pattern. The result is a metallic canvas with intricate and exquisite patterns visible from every angle.

Embroidered Gold is a technique for weaving patterns onto metal, using embossing and perforation to create a multi-dimensional effect similar to silk embroidery against a background. The piece features a prominent main design, with surrounding elements embossed at varying levels to create a three-dimensional effect and enhance the natural flow of the pattern. This technique requires master artisans with decades of experience and exceptional imagination to determine the design’s elevation and depth. Even subtle variations in height create a captivating piece from every angle.

The exhibition “Timeless Treasures: From the Far East; Influence of Oriental Aesthetics” showcases a multitude of valuable jewelry pieces from the The Momentous collection. This collection features masterpieces inspired by Eastern cultures and civilizations, drawn from legends and mythologies, leading to the creation of One-of-a-kind Wonders. Each piece is intricately adorned with hidden symbols and meanings. The designs predominantly use rare and unique materials, such as carved Imperial jade, black opal, and radiant pink conch pearls that shimmer like flames. Each item in the Momentous collection is a priceless treasure, cherished by collectors worldwide, reflecting the aesthetic sensibilities and artistic spirit of the wearer.

The highlight of the exhibition features the Longmen Bracelet, a piece that conveys the famous Chinese legend of the koi fish. According to the legend, koi fish can transform into dragons by swimming upstream to reach the Dragon Gate waterfall. It is said that even one fish out of a thousand can achieve this transformation, as the river’s upper reaches are extremely turbulent. All the fish that attempt to swim upstream are swept back down and perish, except for the koi that manages to ascend the waterfall. This tale is used to inspire youth to work hard and achieve their goals.

Dragon Brooch: In Chinese mythology, the dragon is one of the most revered creatures and is the fifth sign in the Chinese zodiac. The dragon symbolizes power, strength, and good fortune. It is viewed as a benevolent being, often depicted as a protector of people and a bringer of essential rain for agriculture. Historically, the dragon has also symbolized the authority and wisdom of the emperor, representing the ultimate power of rulers. This brooch features a design of a dragon chasing a radiant pearl of wisdom amidst auspicious clouds.

Butterfly Brooch: The butterfly symbolizes love, happiness, and romance. In Chinese mythology, the butterfly represents harmony in relationships. In Chinese art, butterflies are often depicted alongside flowers, symbolizing a life of joy and prosperity. Additionally, butterflies are seen as symbols of youth and marital bliss, frequently appearing in wedding decorations and romantic art.

Pig-Dragon Brooch: This piece features a design with one side carved into a pig-dragon from the Hongshan culture of China. The pig-dragon is believed to represent the first dragon in Chinese culture. The other side is carved to depict a human figure representing the Sun God. These rare ancient artifacts are valued not only for their beauty but also for their spiritual and ritual significance.

Ikebana on Lavender Jade Vase: Inspired by the Shoka style of Ikebana, this piece reflects an ancient Japanese tradition established during the Edo period for arranging flowers in a three-branch asymmetrical format. This arrangement symbolizes heaven, humanity, and earth.
