Nestlé (Thai) Ltd. is collaborating with the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on biodiversity conservation. This collaboration aims to increase biodiversity conservation areas beyond protected zones following the Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) framework. Together, Nestlé and ONEP will share information and academic expertise, as well as develop a biodiversity database to support the “Nestlé Waters Cares for Water” project to become a model for conserving and restoring biodiversity in both terrestrial and inland water areas. Key activities include supporting collaboration between the private sector and local communities to achieve sustainable, long-term, and tangible results.

The Nestlé Waters Cares for Water project is a long-term sustainability initiative that Nestlé has been implementing for nine years in the area around the Khanom Jeen canal in Ayutthaya province. This project is guided by the principles of Educate-Prevent-Restore with an aim to preserve water resources for generations to come. The collaboration with ONEP marks a significant step in enhancing biodiversity and creating a more balanced ecosystem in the area. It also contributes to Thailand’s efforts to expand biodiversity conservation in areas beyond designated protected zones.

Ms. Salinla Seehaphan, Corporate Affairs Director, Nestlé (Thai) Ltd., said, “Nestlé is committed to driving sustainability through our ‘Good for the Planet’ strategy, focusing on all aspects from sustainable agriculture and production process to more eco-friendly packaging. We’ve also significantly achieved progress in our water stewardship projects. For this collaboration, we’re pleased that ONEP recognizes the success of the ‘Nestlé Waters Cares for Water’ project. Together, we will leverage our expertise to promote biodiversity in the areas around the Khanom Jeen canal to promote all dimensions of sustainability while raising awareness about biodiversity throughout society.”

Mr. Prasert Sirinapaporn, Secretary-General of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, said, “ONEP is pleased and honored to collaborate with Nestlé (Thai) Ltd. to conserve, restore, and sustainably use biodiversity in a way that yields tangible results. Thailand’s current biodiversity policy aligns with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, or ‘Biodiversity Plan,’ which was endorsed at a conference of parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. This cooperation will support the achievement of national and international biodiversity goals outlined in the action plan.”
