The Thai Society of Critical Care Medicine (TSCCM), in collaboration with Comen, will host “Mastering the Unpredictable: ICU Crisis Management Simulation in Disaster Scenario” on November 12, 2026, at Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok.

The event will bring together critical-care teams from Thailand, China, and India for an international competition focused on disaster preparedness, rapid decision-making, and coordinated ICU response. Through case presentations and live scenario performances, participating teams will demonstrate how frontline professionals can manage complex emergencies while protecting continuity of critical care.
Building Readiness for Complex Emergencies
In recent years, Thailand and the wider Asia-Pacific region have continued to face the impact of natural hazards and other large-scale emergencies. Earthquakes, floods, fires, transport incidents, industrial accidents, and mass-casualty events can place hospitals and intensive care units under immediate and sustained pressure. These situations require more than clinical knowledge alone. They demand coordinated decision-making, clear communication, efficient use of limited resources, and the ability to maintain critical care as conditions continue to change.
Recognizing the need to strengthen disaster preparedness before the next crisis occurs, the Thai Society of Critical Care Medicine (TSCCM) has organized “Mastering the Unpredictable” as a practical platform for ICU teams to examine these challenges. Through case-based analysis and simulation performance, the competition will help participants review key decisions, share experience, and explore how multidisciplinary teams can respond more effectively to complex emergencies. Its purpose extends beyond a single event, supporting the continued development of critical-care readiness in Thailand and the wider region.
Teams Bringing Real-World Cases to the Final
The competition will bring together seven Thai teams and two international teams from China and India. The Thai teams come from many of Thailand’s leading teaching hospitals, national referral centres, and major critical-care services, representing a high level of clinical and educational expertise in emergency and critical care, disaster medicine, trauma response, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Their cases address fire and industrial incidents, flooding, war-related mass-casualty events, debris-flow disasters, transport-related emergencies, and other complex situations. Each team will demonstrate clinical reasoning, teamwork, crisis management, and resource coordination through a structured case presentation and live scenario performance. By bringing these teams together, the competition aims to facilitate peer learning and share practical approaches that can support wider improvements in disaster preparedness across Thailand.
Expert Insight for Real-World Crisis Response
The live final will be reviewed by an expert panel with backgrounds spanning critical care, trauma, emergency medicine, emergency medical services, defense and mass-casualty response, nursing, anaesthesia, neuroanaesthesia, and international critical-care practice. Senior professionals from Thailand, China, and India will bring clinical, operational, educational, and real-world disaster-response perspectives to the competition.
The judging framework will consider both knowledge and performance, including clinical reasoning, case relevance, problem analysis, teamwork, communication, realism, and time management. The panel’s feedback will help connect each team’s simulation performance with the practical demands faced by frontline professionals during emergencies.
A Shared Commitment to Safer Critical Care
More than a competition, “Mastering the Unpredictable” is designed as a platform for teams and clinical experts to learn from one another through realistic and demanding disaster scenarios. The event will connect frontline experience with structured simulation, encouraging the exchange of clinical knowledge, crisis-management insights, and cross-border perspectives.
Through this collaboration, TSCCM and Comen hope to support continued professional learning, strengthen international clinical exchange, and help advance safer, more resilient critical-care practice. The event will take place on November 12, 2026, at Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok.
