“Magical Melodies”: A Tribute Concert to the Kings and Preserving Thai Cultural Heritage at Mrigadayavan Palace

Magical Melodies, a special concert honoring the artistic legacies of King Rama VI and King Rama IX, and celebrating Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, will take place at the beautiful historic seaside Mrigadayavan Palace, built by King Rama VI. This event is scheduled for Saturday, 7 December 2024, at 16:00 hrs. Held in the Samosorn Sevakamataya Throne Hall in Cha-Am, Petchaburi, this event is part of the Palace’s 100th-anniversary winter series, with live performances every Saturday in December.

Enjoy free admission to the concert. Donation rates for the venue maintenance applies: 90 Baht for adults, 60 and 30 Baht for students and pupils. Donations are voluntary for children under 12, primary school students, seniors over 60, monks, and people with disabilities.  An additional donation of 316 Bath is requested for access to the royal pavilion.  All donations will contribute to the Mrigadayavan Palace’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Conservation (Music) Fund to support the preservation and continuation of traditions and cultural heritage. Tourists and attendees can reserve seats* by calling 081-4041401 (*as long as seats are available).

The concert will feature a selection of famous Thai melodies for guitar as well as the world premiere of “Madanabadha Suite” for guitar, percussion and narration, a composition inspired by King Rama VI’s literary work Madanabadha. A highlight of the evening will be Hucky Eichelmann’s rendition of the beloved compositions of King Rama IX.

Hucky Eichelmann, dubbed as “The German Guitar King,” will take the stage to perform his signature Thai and contemporary works including his hit song Techno Toey. Since his legendary recording Kuen Nueng in 1981, he has become synonymous with classical guitar in Thailand. As the first foreign artist to receive royal permission to arrange, record, and perform King Rama IX’s compositions, Hucky is considered a pioneer of the guitar in the country’s music scene. He has had the honor of performing several Royal Command performances in front of His Majesty the Late King Rama IX and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.  In addition to his mastery of King Rama IX’s music, Hucky is celebrated for his contemporary interpretations of traditional Asian and Thai melodies, skillfully blending modern styles with timeless tunes. At this event, his performance will showcase the richness of Thailand’s musical heritage through his artistry.

Other guest artists include Patravadi Mejudhon (Khru Lek), a 2014 National Artist in performing arts; Anant Narkkong, recipient of the 2019 Silpathorn Award in creative music works; and Associate Professor Arthid Sheravanichkul, PhD from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Arts who teaches classical Thai literature and Buddhist literature, as well as composing and reading Thai poetry.

Magical Melodies not only celebrates the artistic talents of the revered kings but also serves as a fundraiser for the ongoing restoration of the Palace, ensuring its preservation as a cherished cultural landmark for future generations.

Join us at an unforgettable evening that honors the legacy of two great kings and cultural heritage at Mrigadayavan Palace.

The event is supported by Ministry of Culture’s Department of Cultural Promotion, Singha Corporation Co., Ltd. and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
