A New Year, A New Beginning Inspiring Stories of Grab Drivers Who Turn Their Dreams into Reality
The New Year is often a time when people set goals to improve their lives. Whether it’s acquiring new skills, pursuing better health, or advancing their careers. This spirit of transformation is reflected in the inspiring journeys of two Grab drivers who turned their challenges into opportunities. Jumphol Kidsanawan, a GrabFood driver, saved diligently for over three years to buy his own car and transition to driving for GrabCar, increasing his family’s income. Similarly, Kanta Akanitaprachai, a single mother who was once a full-time housewife dependent on her husband, transformed her life by becoming a successful GrabCar Luxe driver, earning a six-figure monthly and achieving financial stability for her family.
From Delivering Meals to Driving Success: How Determination Took a GrabFood Driver to GrabCar
Jumphol Kidsanawan, a 47-year-old driver, began his journey as an executive chauffeur before fully transitioning to Grab to take on the responsibility of supporting his family of four-his parents, wife, and daughter.
“I initially worked as a chauffeur for executives, but during the COVID-19, my company reduced salaries, leaving me struggling to cover my expenses. I had to look for a new way to earn extra income, so I decided to try driving for GrabFood. At first, I delivered food alongside my regular job, but I eventually transitioned to driving for Grab full-time because the income was quite good at the time and allowed me to support everyone in my family,” Jumphol shared.
Over three years and seven months, Jumphol saved his earnings from driving for GrabFood and was able to purchase his first car. “The money I used to buy this car came entirely from delivering food on my motorcycle,” he said proudly. Following this achievement, he decided to shift his career to driving for GrabCar full-time, focusing on passenger transport services instead of delivering food.
“Driving GrabCar gives me greater peace of mind, provides a better income, and allows me to learn how to serve a diverse range of passengers. This has helped me improve both my service skills and personality, enabling me to become a more professional and well-rounded service provider,” he added.
Beyond his driving duties, Jumphol regularly participates in Grab’s activities, including various challenges to win rewards and earning opportunities through point accumulation. He is also proud that his daughter received a Grab The Future scholarship, a gesture that deeply touched his family and continues to inspire gratitude and pride to this day.
“Working with Grab has not only provided me with income but also opportunities for self-improvement and a path to stability for my family,” Jumphol shared, leaving a message for his fellow drivers “Believe that you can do it. If I can do it, so can you, because Grab provides opportunities for everyone.”
Even though he has achieved his goal of owning a car, Jumphol remains determined to continue improving himself, particularly in service, language, and personal development. His goal for the new year is to buy a house and a new car to provide greater stability for his family.
From Stay-at-Home Mom to Luxe Car Owner and Family Breadwinner
Kanta Akanitaprachai, known as Ple, a 51-year-old single mother who transformed her life with sheer grit. Formerly a ground staff member for an airline, Ple left her job to become a full-time homemaker to care for her two daughters. However, in 2015, her husband’s business encountered financial difficulties, leading to stress that strained family relationships and left her solely responsible for her two daughters.
“When I started driving for GrabCar, I only had 200 baht in my pocket. On my first day, I earned over 1,000 baht, which gave me hope to work harder. After about four years, I managed to pay off my car loan, earn enough to comfortably support my family, and most importantly, have the flexibility to manage my own schedule, allowing me to fully care for my children,” Ple said. With her passion for service and language skills, she remains confident in continuing to provide services through Grab.
Her journey took a significant turn when Grab introduced GrabCar Luxe. Seizing the opportunity, Ple made a bold decision to sell her old car and use her GrabStar competition winnings, along with her savings, to invest in a brand-new Mercedes-Benz. She secured the loan using the 50-TW withholding tax document that Grab provides annually as proof of income.
She thought, “Let’s give it a shot! If it didn’t work out, I’d find another way.” To her surprise, the loan was approved, marking the beginning of her GrabCar Luxe journey,” she recalled. Ple also developed a backup plan by joining GrabDriveYourCar, passing the written exam, interview, and a practical test. Additionally, she was recently selected to be a driver for GrabExecutive, a premium service that has just been launched.
“Delivering quality service with genuine care creates true value. It’s more than just working for a paycheck; it’s about making life easier for customers and seeing their smiles,” Ple explained.
She attributes her success to “determination” and “wisdom”, encouraging fellow drivers to focus on possibilities rather than obstacles. Starting with just 200 baht, barely enough to fill her gas tank, she worked tirelessly and now earns over 100,000 baht a month. Her achievements are the result of hard work, patience, and nearly a decade of persistence to reach this point.
The stories of Jumphol and Ple highlight the power of determination and resilience in overcoming obstacles. As the New Year approaches, their journeys serve as an inspiration for anyone seeking opportunities to transform their lives. Starting from humble beginnings, they prove that with confidence, patience, and dedication, anyone can pave their way to success.
